Interviews
Q: Inez, where did the inspiration for Friends for Life originate?
A: When I was younger, I spent a lot of time visiting people in nursing homes and hospitals with my grandmother. There was this one experience I had in a hospital with an old woman who was crying out for help because she was alone and scared of dying alone. I realized then that not everyone has someone to take care of them which eventually led my idea of a nonprofit organization that provides for those people who are alone.
Q: Casey, what brought you to Friends for Life?
A: I moved to Waco after getting married with experience in social service fundraising. I also have a son with cerebral palsy. Friends for Life seemed like the perfect place to work because it combined my work experience with my passion for service and helping people with disabilities.
Q: Casey, what do you love the most about working for FFL?
A: I love how people can come to us from such a desperate situation and we give them the independence they wouldn't have otherwise. What inspires me the most is when I spend all day doing grant work and can then go out into the day center, play around and dance with the clients and go back to my office feeling so fulfilled.
Q: Inez, what is your biggest hope in running an organization like FFL?
A: I hope to provide the services to give people the independence they deserve, be a friend to people who have no one else and help people live a joyful promising life.
Q: Casey, what is your biggest hope for the future of FFL?
A: I hope to expand the FFL facilities and day center so we can provide our services to more clients in need. Eventually, I want to see FFL in other big cities, states, and other countries. My part in all of it is to contribute toward those goals through my fundraising efforts.
